Why Community is at the Heart of MakeLoveNotPorn
By MLNP Curator Alexis Makepeace.
What separates MLNP from other platforms that host adult content?
Beyond creating a platform for people to socially share their #realworldsex; MLNP is a space where people feel safe, seen, and free to express themselves and their desires. Our community is one built out of trust and respect. It is a place where boundaries are not only discussed, but celebrated. Trying to fit the human experience into an algorithm that prioritizes the approval of others is what we have grown accustomed to, but is something MakeLoveNotPorn actively does not seek to replicate. Where other platforms encourage ranking and performance, MLNP is focused on #realworldsex and honouring whatever that may look like. We do not rank based on popularity or earnings, and we post solo videos, coupled videos and more the merrier adventures. We believe that there is no hierarchy to #realworldsex. Much like #realworldsex, being an MLNPstar is not about racing to the finish line, but enjoying every part of the journey.
I, a curator at MakeLoveNotPorn, strongly believe that our life’s work is not in our individual accomplishments, but in what we give back to our community. We don’t succeed unless everyone succeeds. This mentality is what MakeLoveNotPorn was created on, and it’s what drew me to the company initially. As someone who has previously posted adult content on other platforms, I understand how isolating much of the experience can feel. I wanted a community, I wanted support. This is a gap MLNP addresses, and their investment in their community shows up in many different ways. It’s present in the work of the curators who approve all videos and comments. It’s embedded in the website’s purposeful omission of a trending or top earners page. It’s visible in blog posts like these, that showcase our MLNPstars, as we celebrate the voices of the real life people in front of the camera. This work is made possible by MLNP’s revenue sharing business model. Members pay to rent and stream our social sex videos, and we split those payments 50/50 with our MakeLoveNotPornstars.
MakeLoveNotPorn acknowledges the vulnerability and bravery that it takes to share intimate moments online. Beyond creating a platform, we want to provide a safe space for our MLNPstars and members. When we remove the hierarchies, metrics, and algorithms that emphasize conformity and rewards consistency, we can focus on what social media was truly designed for; connection and community.
Authenticity Online
Honouring our complete selves, including all of our awkwardness, silliness, and messiness, can be hard enough without an audience. It’s when we feel our most exposed that we need a support system to rely on, but given the stigma that is associated with this type of work, that support system may or may not be available to you. MLNP is here to support you through every step of the process. Whether you have just heard about us and have some questions, or you have been submitting videos since the very beginning, you are never alone. We know that suffering and shame can come from isolation. Doubt creeps in, we second guess ourselves. We all need a network that is able to reflect our truest potential back to us, especially when we can’t see it, and we’re honored to do this for our MLNPstars.
Sharing your #realworldsex requires openness, acceptance, and the ability to not take yourself too seriously. It takes courage to be exactly who you are, especially in a digital space that so often rewards likeness and replication. Real life is complicated, unexpected, beautiful, and surprising. Trying to fit all of that into a category, or to reward certain experiences and not others, feels disingenuous to the community we are trying to serve.
Seeing yourself on video can be a very surreal experience. And so often when we share things online, that surrealism is heightened by the engagement (or lack thereof), whatever you shared has received. We are no longer seeing ourselves, but seeing how we perceive others might see us. That can be difficult to navigate, even more so when it’s our most private moments on display. MakeLoveNotPorn hopes to eradicate that shame, by creating a space that praises simply showing up, just how you are, however that may be. We are a body-positive, sex-positive platform. There is no ranking or favouring here, because at MLNP there is enough space for everyone to be exactly who they are. We love hearing how affirming our members find our #realworldsex videos. Seeing non-performative, authentic sexual expression can be validating, educational, and most importantly — really hot!
The Social Sex Revolution
MakeLoveNotPorn is pro-sex. Pro-porn. Pro-knowing the difference. We are here to offer a counterpoint to porn, not oppose it. While we don’t categorize our work as pornography — we are instead pioneering a whole new category of social sex: the ability to share your #realworldsex online as spontaneously and freely as you share every other part of your life on social platforms. At MLNP, we want to highlight the nuance and diversity sexual expression has, by celebrating the full glorious spectrum of how we all have sex in the real world. There isn’t a ‘normal’ body type, position, or location in which to have sex — it’s all beautiful and valid. However, it can be hard to accept ourselves when we are told by mainstream media that there is an ideal image, and only those who fit into that image are worthy of being sexual or feeling sexy. MakeLoveNotPorn understands how important it is to showcase #realworld bodies, but we also understand how vulnerable it can be when it’s your #realworld body being shown. Beyond building a platform, we act as a liaison between our MLNPstars and our MLNPmembers who rent their videos. We take care of publishing your videos, moderating comments, and handling payouts, so you can focus on the fun parts. Whether you want to publish a new video every week, every month, or every year, we are here to help facilitate that.
Social sex is designed to make it easy to share #realworldsex video content, and our MLNPstars can be as involved as they would like to be. If you, as a MLNPstar, want to set a posting schedule, reply to comments, choose stills, and promote on social media, you absolutely can, but it is not a requirement. We’re very lucky to have MLNPstars who make a point to submit a certain amount of videos a month! That being said, we know that life happens. It’s not always possible to be online, whether it’s an issue of time, mental capacity or anything else. MakeLoveNotPorn is proud to have a team of industry experts who encourage, promote, and advise whenever that support is needed or wanted.
People who work in the adult entertainment industry have always been trailblazers — yet, unfairly censored. We consider our MakeLoveNotPornstars modern-day heroes of the Social Sex Revolution. We work to ensure their efforts are promoted and discoverable on our platform, without playing into algorithm biases that so often unfairly impact the work of marginalized creators.
The Future of Sex on the Internet
This industry is constantly evolving, as it’s always the first to integrate and adapt to new technology and platforms. While the community is resilient, MakeLoveNotPorn offers a space where those who share their #realworldsex and those who view it are safe and secure.
Though we, like all of those who work in explicit content, face an uphill battle, we can promise our community that our thoughts and feelings will never change. We will always be a platform focused on sharing and celebrating #realworldsex. We will continue to fight for our community, and we will never ostracize the very people who have helped make our platform what it is today.
