Learn From a MLNPstar: A Guide to Filming #RealWorldSex

Nervous? Not sure what to do with your hands? That’s okay — and very relatable! Take your time and just be yourself. Really. We want to see your #realworldsex in all of its glory. This means that if you’re capturing whatever is happening in the moment, and prioritizing the pleasure of the people in your video, you’re doing it right. Pleasure can take so many different forms and sometimes it comes with falling over as you’re undressing, having a sip of water or pausing to just talk. Sometimes sharing those moments can be even more intimate than the actual sexual activity that you engage in. We feel that it is important to embrace every moment as it occurs because real world sex isn’t polished or choreographed.

Filming a video can be most enjoyable if you set up your camera and then forget about it, letting your sexy time unfold. However, sometimes it can be fun to look at the camera during your sexcapade or even pick up the camera for some POV shots. You can choose whatever camera angles you like, but please do what feels natural and hot in the moment and remember that making love is about more than just close-ups of genitalia or specific kinds of sexual activity. We encourage you to focus more on how your real world sex feels and less on how it looks.

Below are my tried and true tips to help you shoot an excellent MakeLoveNotPorn video.

Tech 101

• If possible, please film in full HD: 1920×1080 as this is standard resolution for video which fits most displays. If that’s not available to you, that’s okay! You can stick with the default setting on your device.
• If using a phone or tablet, please film with the best lens (i.e. not the selfie lens) as it produces the highest quality.
• I recommend shooting with just one camera whether you move it or keep it still.
• Make sure your equipment (the filming equipment, that is!) is fully charged and has enough space (at least 6GB available). I know a few of us MLNPstars have learned this lesson the hard way and lost half our footage, leaving you all wanting more!
• Always keep your camera horizontal/landscape.
• Please use a tripod or prop your camera up on something and make sure the surface it is resting on is not visible in the frame. I sometimes just use a stack of books or lean my camera against my water bottle. You can be creative!

How to Prepare for your #RealWorldSex Debut

• I always try to use a space that is tidy and that I feel proud of, however #realworldsex can definitely be captured in messy rooms, too!
• Natural light is easy and flattering, but choose any lighting that makes you feel good about yourself and is bright enough that you are visible.
• Consider which camera angle is going to offer the best lighting and has the least distracting background so that you are the focus of your video. Pro tip: you can even do a quick camera test to make sure you are well-lit and in the frame.
• Make sure you are alone so that no one will disturb you.
• Eliminate background noise as much as possible (no tv, music, A/C, etc). MLNP can’t publish videos with copyrighted music in it.
• Wear as little or as much as you feel comfortable in.
• Take your time getting in the mood. What makes you feel sexy? Getting dressed? Getting undressed? Lighting candles? Taking sexy selfies? Talking? Sensual movement? “The mood” may shift throughout and that’s okay. This can all be part of your video if you like.

What to Film

• We love it all! You do you and/or whoever else you like. As long as you are having #realworldsex and your video complies with our submission agreement, we will be honoured to share it.
• Shy about showing your face in your video? We understand and respect your privacy. Feel free to get creative with your framing, editing or even wear a mask like Yinyangtao if you’d prefer to conceal your identity.
• Orgasms can be wonderful, but they don’t always occur in #realworldsex — don’t feel pressured to climax. Feel free to have many orgasms or no orgasms at any point in your video.
• You must create a separate intro video/trailer in addition to your MLNP video. The intro video can be a short clip from your main video like mine, it could be a Wes Anderson film-style trailer like ColinGray or, as VonBettie has done, you can film yourself(yes) talking. This can be you talking about the sex you’re about to have or what you loved about the sex you just had, for example. Just be yourself and aim to make it 30 seconds to 3 minutes long.
• Your main video must be at least 3 minutes long in total.

The Submission Process

• We accept one file per main video and one file per intro video.
• If you happen to start and stop your camera, you’ll need to edit your files together.
• Editing your video is otherwise not a requirement, but it can be useful if you’d like to merge 2 files, crop, trim or adjust the sound/lighting levels to your liking, among other things. I recommend iMovie or Videoshop, both available for download on apple and android devices.
• Make sure there are no logos embedded by your editing software.
• Please do not add copyrighted music to your video after the fact.
• Depending on the size of your video and speed of your internet, your upload may take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour to upload. You’ll receive a confirmation when it has been successfully uploaded and is pending curation.
